In a Buyer's Market, the supply of homes on the market exceeds demand. High inventory of homes and few buyers means that homes are on the market longer, and prices tend to drop giving buyers more time to look for a home and more negotiating leverage.
In a Seller's Market, the number of buyers wanting homes exceeds the supply of homes on the market. The smaller inventory of homes combined with many buyers leads to homes selling quickly and rising prices. Under these circumstances, a buyer may have to pay more, and make decisions quickly.
